Developer Integration
Do you have a product or service that you would like to integrate InboxResponse into?
  1. IR Basic - This is the simplest integration method.

    Requires:

    - "Return-Path" added (if not already available) in outgoing email headers. Example: Return-Path: <bounces@your_domain.com>. "bounces@your_domain.com" signifies your customers "bounce to" email address.

    Sendmail Compatible code should include:

    |/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -f "bounces@your_domain.com"

    SMTP code should include:

    rcpt to: <bounces@your_domain.com> NOTIFY=DELAY,FAILURE ORCPT=rfc822;<bounces@your_domain.com>

    Benefits are:

    - Little to no modification of your existing software.
    - Minimal programming and configuration required. Use our servers to provide your customer statistics and delivery/bounce data storage.
    - Easy to upgrade to Advanced integration in the future.

    Limitations are:

    - Works for a single mailing list.
    - Can not track mailings by "Campaign ID".
    - Only provides for "Delay" and "Failure" type responses (Example: "mailbox full" and "user unknown").
    - User must log into their InboxResponse.com account to view all of their account data.
    - Basic "BounceBack Notification" supported for "Failure" responses.

All of these limitations can be overcome by use of the Advanced Integration method.

  2. IR Advanced - Some or all of the following can be added to provide greater functionality and convenience to your customers.

Required if 2 or more mailing lists:

    - "X-List-Number:" added to email headers. Acceptable values for this field must be numeric. Example "X-List-Number: 2".

    Benefits are:

    - Your customers may send to an unlimited number of mailing lists using only one InboxResponse.com account.

Required if tracking by specific mailing campaign ID is desired:

    - "X-InboxResponse-ID:" added to email headers. Acceptable values for this field are numbers separated by dashes. Example: 5-07-12-2008-20-15 which may signify mailing_list_number-day-date-year-hour-minutes.

    Benefits are:

    - Your customers may track the results of specific mailing campaigns, providing them the ability to track the results of each individual mailing.

Required if you wish to receive "SUCCESS" Delivery Status Notification results:

    Sendmail Compatible code should include:

    |/usr/sbin/sendmail -t -f "bounces@your_domain.com" -N "SUCCESS","DELAY","FAILURE"

"bounces@your_domain.com" signifies your customers "bounce to" email address.

    SMTP code should include:

    rcpt to: <bounces@your_domain.com> NOTIFY=SUCCESS,DELAY,FAILURE ORCPT=rfc822;<bounces@your_domain.com>

"bounces@your_domain.com" signifies your customers "bounce to" email address.

    Benefits are:

    - Your customers can track which emails were successfully delivered to and/or accepted by the subscriber mail servers.

Required if you wish to provide your own interface for your customers to view their account information from, InboxResponse.com can post all email response data back to a program of your own creation. A tutorial for this can be found here. It requires an InboxResponse.com account to access it.

    Benefits are:

    - You maintain continuity over the design interface seen by your customer, including your own logos, links, and documentation.

    Limitations are:

    - No limitations
